Thanks to our incredible services and our generous supporters, Team FitzRoy has been around the world in 80 days, and raised £10,500!
Team members clocked up their miles in a range of ways – dog walking, running and even tandem bike riding – to help cover the distance, a massive 25,127 miles. The virtual journey spanned across Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, finally returning ‘Team FitzRoy’ to Petersfield, Hampshire.
Community fundraising manager Jim Apted said: “We had no idea if it would be possible, but many of the people we support were isolating, and so we wanted something they could get involved with from home.
“People we support were adding miles slowly but surely. Families and friends joined. We even had ‘Great Aunt Peg’ who at 96 was sofa cycling, adding 100 valuable miles.”
So many FitzRoy services across the country got involved with the challenge and FitzRoy trustees Neil Blackley and Sarah Nicholson raised more than £4,000 and covered over 400 miles between them.
“I realised club members were doing a lot of training, so we formed a team. In the end we added a whopping 9,000 miles to the total.” Daniella herself managed to clock up an incredible 2,000 miles, running and cycling every day.
Jim added: “On day 80 we crossed the finish line with 10 hours to spare. It was amazing! Even more incredible was the total amount people raised, people have been so generous.
“I think they were inspired by everybody’s sheer determination to finish. I want to thank all our team members for raising an incredible £10,500. The Petersfield Triathlon Club have donated an extra £1,000. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, donated or just wished us well on our travels. This has been such a challenging time for our staff and all the people we support – I can’t tell you how much of a boost this has given everyone at FitzRoy.”
