Because FitzRoy see the person
From the moment I was greeted at the door I knew I desperately wanted the job
Jane Grant, FitzRoy Area Business Manager, on why she loves working for FitzRoy
“It was November 1991 and I was driving a 70-mile round trip to get to a job interview. I had applied for a job as a Night Nurse with Meadow Cottage and all the way I was thinking why am I doing this? This is much too far for a job doing night shift.
This all changed when I arrived and was welcomed by a person with very high support needs in a wheelchair, who didn’t speak with words. I hardly noticed the staff member in the background because they were doing such a wonderful job allowing the person with learning disabilities take charge and welcome me in. I was then shown round the house and a Day Service by two more people with learning disabilities.
From the moment I was greeted at the door I knew I desperately wanted the job, even though it was so far from my home, because I was so impressed by the way the people were supported. I hadn’t seen such a fantastic person-centred approach before and I am so proud that staff keep these values at the heart of everything they do today. Twenty-three years later and I haven’t looked back.â€
