Martin, FitzRoy Chair, steps down
Angela Murphy, FitzRoy Chief Executive writes:
A huge thank you to Martin Kyndt, our Chair of Trustees who stands down next week after six and a half years at the helm.
Martin was at the helm during Covid, leading the board to sign off on the difficult decisions we put to them as the executive team, helping us keep people we support and colleagues safe. He really has been a committed Chair. Our Trustees volunteer their time. Not only did Martin take his role incredibly seriously, but he also did some amazing fundraising challenges for us, raising £2,500 by cycling over 500 km across the Camino Way (I walked it, and that was difficult enough) to last year when he bravely cycled from Lands End to John O’ Groats. He has a been a compassionate but steady guiding hand. Considering his background working for international aid charities such as Christian Aid and SightSavers, he brought a wealth of experience but also still learned so much from FitzRoy, our staff and people we support.
His passion for the work we do, and everything people achieve has been monumental.
Thank you to everyone at FitzRoy who have met or working with him over the years, sharing your thoughts and experiences with him and enabling him to be an incredible Chair.
We hope he will always remain a friend of FitzRoy. He had some generous advice for our new Chair Mark Smith, and also he recorded a message for our colleagues. He said:
You are some of the most amazing people I have ever met.
“The things that I have seen in the services I have visited has been really, really, special. You do amazing work, important work, and you should never lose sight of that. There is nothing greater than to love, support somebody who needs support, and that is exactly what you do every single day. A big thank you for all your support that you’ve given me, I wish you all the very very best.”

Thank you Martin, for your insight, your support and your willingness to get stuck in! We will all miss you.
