Celebrating Jess and Marie at the Great British Care Awards
We’re delighted to celebrate two incredible finalists from our East Midlands teams who represented FitzRoy at this year’s regional Great British Care Awards.
Jess – finalist for the Care Home Worker award
Jess is a shining example of dedication, compassion and professionalism in care. She brings warmth and positivity every day, always arriving with a smile that sets the tone for everyone around her. People we support genuinely look forward to their 1-to-1 sessions with her because they know she will meet them with kindness, respect and genuine care.
Jess doesn’t hesitate when things are challenging and never shies away from supporting people through complex emotions. Her approach reflects the very best of trauma-informed care, building trust at a pace that feels safe, meeting people where they are and celebrating every step forward.
One of the most powerful examples of her support has been her work with someone who has long-standing trauma around water. Through consistent and trauma-informed support, Jess built enough trust to help them feel safe washing their hair fortnightly, something so simple that once felt impossible.
It was a turning point not only for the person’s wellbeing, but for the whole team’s understanding of what compassionate, emotionally intelligent support can achieve.
Jess also ensures the progress continues. She shared her approach with colleagues, offering guidance and encouragement so others can build the same trusting relationships. This spirit of shared learning has strengthened confidence within the team and created continuity that helps the person continue to feel safe and understood.
Jess’s commitment to learning, her initiative and her supportive approach with colleagues make her an invaluable member of the team. She doesn’t just provide care – she transforms it.
Marie – finalist for the Putting People First award
Marie has been part of the team since 2022 and has quickly become known for her creativity, patience and commitment to truly putting people first. She is always looking for ways to help people explore new skills, try new experiences and express themselves so they have more choice and independence.
One standout example of her initiative came during a meal out with a person who communicates differently. Marie realised that the text only menu limited his ability to choose what he wanted to eat. Marie used her phone to show pictures of each option so he could choose what he really wanted and know what he was choosing.
Not only did this open up his choices but he also began to repeat and learn new words from these pictures. Over time, his vocabulary has grown – something others have also noticed and praised. This simple and thoughtful gesture has given him greater independence and confidence when eating out.
Moments like this show how powerful the right communication tools can be. They don’t just remove barriers – they open up confidence, autonomy and connection.
Marie brings patience, consistency and a real sense of joy to everything she does. She makes people smile, and her calm, positive approach has made a clear difference to those who rely on her support. Her colleagues are always quick to say how much of a positive impact she’s had.
A huge congratulations
A heartfelt congratulations to both Jess and Marie. Their achievements reflect the strength and talent of our East Midlands teams and the difference that skilled, compassionate social care makes every day.
We are incredibly proud of them for representing their teams, the people they support and FitzRoy’s values with such warmth and dedication. Their stories remind us why social care matters and how the right support can transform someone’s day, confidence or even their whole outlook.
They show what great care really looks like – and why it deserves to be celebrated.
