FitzRoy chair of trustees set to cycle length of Britain to raise funds
The chair of our board of trustees, Martin Kyndt, will set off from Land’s End on Tuesday 16th April to cycle all the way to John O’Groats. By undertaking this challenge, he’s hoping to raise at least £1,500 to support people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs.
Martin said: “Having had such great support for cycling the Camino Way last year, I thought I would set myself an even bigger challenge this year of cycling the length of Britain, from Land’s End to John O’Groats, to raise funds to support the amazing work of FitzRoy. I’m passionate about the right for everyone to be able to lead a full life – the life that they choose – and FitzRoy enables people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs to do just that. I know that every penny I raise will make a difference for the people FitzRoy supports, and that thought will keep me going as I take on those steep hills on the way to John O’Groats.”
Anna, FitzRoy’s Chief Executive, said: “This is a huge challenge Martin is taking on to raise funds for us and we’re so grateful to him – we’ll be wishing him well throughout. Money raised through fundraising helps the people we support in so many ways, from purchasing assistive technology to empower people to be more independent to creating a sensory garden so they can enjoy a calming outdoor space.”
Cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 15 days will be a very demanding undertaking both physically and mentally. To complete the 1,000 miles, Martin will need to peddle around 67 miles each day, tackling many challenging climbs along the way. Day two alone will involve a total climb of 1,700 metres.
