Sue Rzecki, FitzRoy Service Manager in Norfolk, got the chance to spend the evening bowling with one of the people she supports. She told us why it made her feel a bit nostalgic.
I started working for FitzRoy in 1999 as a Support Worker. One of my favourite parts of the job was going out in the community with people. I am now a Service Manager, so I don’t do as much direct support these days. When Ian, one of the gents that lives in FitzRoy Supported Living, needed someone to go with him to his local bowling alley in Fakenham I jumped at the chance to go.
Ian likes going bowling every Friday evening. He meets up with his friends who are also supported by FitzRoy in Walsingham. He also meets his girlfriend, Becky, who lives elsewhere. Becky and Ian have been together for quite a few years now, and they hope that one day they will get married and live together.
I watched everyone play a game and cheered them on from the side-lines. Afterwards they all had a drink and got the chance to chat and socialise. Everyone had a great time and they were all very good bowlers too, much better than I am! It was such good fun, and lovely for me to think back to all those years ago when I started at FitzRoy as a Support Worker.
