David goes the extra mile for FitzRoy as he takes on the Great South Run 2018
David Fawcett, a long-time supporter of FitzRoy, is taking part in the ten-mile Great South Run 2018 next weekend.
This is the second time that David has taken on a fundraising challenge for FitzRoy. Last year he took part in a daring abseil down the Spinnaker Tower with six of his colleagues from Amey, the construction company. Amey kindly agreed to match fund the sponsorship, and have done so again for the Great South Run.
David said he felt compelled and inspired to support FitzRoy after visiting one of our Hampshire services and seeing the incredible difference that fundraised money can make to the lives of people with learning disabilities.
David said:
I am really pleased to be taking part in the Great South Run and especially supporting this wonderful charity. Although I am going out of my comfort zone I am really looking forward to it. FitzRoy are making a real difference to people’s lives every day and I am very proud to help them, albeit in a very small way. I certainly won’t be the fastest or fittest runner on the day, but my goal is to complete the course and raise as much money as possible.â
As well as the fitness benefits associated with training for this annual event, one of the key motivators for runners is raising sponsorship for a charity close to their heart. We are always very grateful when people choose FitzRoy.
David hasn’t just relied on sponsorship to reach his fundraising target this year, he also raised additional funds at a local indoor car boot sale.
He added:
The car boot was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the charity, as well as raise money. Once people understand the important work the charity do they seem more than happy to support it.â
The Great South Run will take place on Sunday 21st October. It’s a flat circular course around Portsmouth and Southsea, and is an excellent choice for those who are new to running events. If you are in the area and want to join Team FitzRoy and cheer along our fabulous Great South Runners.
