Huw’s and FitzRoy’s Health Challenge week
This year, we asked everyone we support and staff to set a health challenge for FitzRoy’s new Health Challenge Week. Good health is a key to a happy fulfilled life, and we are committed to supporting people with disabilities to be healthy.
FitzRoy Huw’s got stuck into FitzRoy’s Great Health Challenge week. Judy Goodchild, Service Manager, told us what everyone got up to.
We decided to try different fruits by putting them in smoothies for FitzRoy’s Health Challenge Week. It’s amazing what exotic fruit you can buy these days. We had Dragon fruit, greengages, plumogranets, papaya and figs. There were also usual fruit such as strawberries, grapes, oranges, and kiwi. We made lots of different combinations for everyone to try.
We had some mixed reactions to some of the flavours – the vegetable one didn’t go down well! The favourite was blueberry, raspberry, plum and pear. Alice, one of the ladies we support, is not usually very good at drinking. However, she tried all of them and seemed to enjoy each one. In future if she is not drinking we can offer her a smoothie.
This was a great way to get the people we support to eat fruit, because some are unable to eat fruit pieces but can manage a drink. However, Rupert preferred his fruit whole or in pieces and was trying to eat all of it before we could get it in the blender!
