“I only came back to work following maternity leave two weeks ago, and to be honest I was astounded at how much my team are pulling together even more than normal. Staff and management are working non stop to make sure everyone is safe and has the essentials. To be a part of something like that is really special. It reminds me why I am here working at FitzRoy and why I started this job in the first place. It’s thoughts like that that will keep me motivated for this challenge, I’m not just doing it for me, I’m doing this for my services that just keep going through this crisis.
“Since lockdown I haven’t been able to go to the gym, so I started running up to 10km, so when I saw it’s a marathon in a month I thought it was quite doable. It’s also about doing something for yourself and giving yourself some time out of the house for your own personal headspace. I thought it would be a good way to get out on the road and have time to clear my head while pushing myself.
“I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received already – I originally wanted to raise £100 but now I am up to £175 before even starting the challenge which is incredible. Anything extra will just be a bonus really.
“I think this would be a great challenge for anyone – if you’re not a runner you could walk the challenge or cycle, it works out as just 0.85 miles a day! It’s just about getting out the house and doing something for your own physical and mental wellbeing.”
