Leading with confidence – building stronger teams
“It’s easy to feel in a bit of a bubble, meeting other managers made me realise how big FitzRoy really is and how many other people are in the same boat as me who I can turn to for advice and learn from.”
That’s how Natasha, who manages Donec Mews, our care home in Hampshire, describes her experience of joining FitzRoy’s Leadership Programme.
For Natasha, the opportunity to connect with other home managers across FitzRoy was just as valuable as the training itself.
Bringing Managers Together
The networking alone makes it worth it. You’ve got people you can go to for advice, support or just to ask, ‘How do you do this?’
FitzRoy’s leadership programme brings together managers from across the whole organisation, creating space to share their experiences and learn from each other.
Practical skills that make a difference
One of the key takeaways for Natasha was learning how to handle difficult conversations. She said: “It’s easy to address something that’s clearly gone wrong. But when it’s about attitude, that’s much harder. The course gave me real techniques I could use straight away.”
That immediate impact is key.
“I’ve been able to pass what I’ve learned on to my senior support workers and deputy manager. It’s important to share that knowledge so it strengthens the whole team.”
What the programme covers
The course focuses on four key areas:
- Creating and communicating your vision
- Building a welcoming, learning-focused culture
- Managing change and bringing your team with you
- Leading by example as a role model
The final session is a ‘sharing your success’ day where managers reflect on what they have learned and how they’ve applied it in practice.
Why it matters
Strong leadership shapes whole teams and cultures, and has a huge impact on the experiences of people we support.
By building confident and connected leaders, we’re strengthening our teams and improving support across the whole organisation.
“It’s given me confidence, new skills and a real sense of being valued.” Natasha said. “Plus it’s actually really fun. You’re learning, but it also feels like a reward.”
Investing in leadership is ultimately about improving the support people receive every day.
