Learning disability day centre members party the night away!
Support Workers at On Track, Day and Community Centre for people with learning disabilities in Hampshire, pulled out all the stops to put on a fabulous summer party for the people they support.
One of the Support Workers that helped organise the party told us more.
Once we decided the party would have a Hawaiian theme, everyone got started on making the decorations in art sessions at the day centre. The guys made some large flower decorations to hang in the hall, a big âAloha’ sign, and some garlands to wear so they would look the part on the night.
After all the preparations everyone was excited when it was finally time to party! Over 40 of our members arrived looking wonderful. It was so lovely to see people all dressed up and ready to have some fun. Once the DJ started playing music, the dancefloor was full until the end. All night everybody danced, smiled and laughed. Watching the camaraderie that the members share was really special.
When the final song had played and it was time to leave, lots of the people we support came to shake our hands and say thank you for a great night. The evening was such a hit that people started asking when the next one would be. There was still a buzz and lots of talk of the party in Monday morning sessions.
For me, it didn’t feel like work at all! It’s so rewarding to be able to give the people we support the opportunity to party with all of their friends, something that may not happen for many very often. Seeing all of those beaming smiles was absolutely priceless.â
