Running for FitzRoy
Nick is running the London Marathon in April in support of FitzRoy as we have supported his Aunt, Kim at our care home in Teddington for close to 40 years.
Nick said, “FitzRoy has been a constant source of support for my mum and my grandparents when they were around. We’ve seen first hand the love, care, and dedication that goes into supporting residents, and this is an opportunity for me to give a little something back.
“Since the start of the year, it has suddenly felt a lot more real. The winter weather has made training tricky, and finding time for a two-hour run has been a challenge, but this weekend I’m aiming for 30K – if I can get through that, it’ll be a big mental milestone.
“These are the longest distances I’ve ever run. I’ve always been sporty, but this has been a big shift, requiring more focus, routine, and discipline. It’s a fun challenge. When I first started training, I set goals to keep myself motivated and to train against. But as race day approaches, I’m thinking, ‘whatever happens, happens.’ It’s not about the time – it’s about just doing it, enjoying the experience, and raising money.
“I’ve spoken to a few people who’ve done it, and they say it’s an experience like no other. There are some nerves, of course, but overall, I’m just excited.
“Hopefully, the money raised will make a real difference for Kim and her fellow residents. FitzRoy has played such an important role in our lives, especially now that my mum no longer has her parents around, and Kim is a couple of hours away.
Knowing she is in a home with incredible carers and staff makes a huge difference. We realise not everyone has the same level of support, so we feel very privileged and incredibly thankful for everything FitzRoy does.
