Taking on FitzRoy’s Firewalk - FitzRoy

Taking on FitzRoy’s Firewalk

Published: April 11, 2025

Congratulations to our incredible Firewalkers who raised thousands of pounds for people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health issues last weekend. 23 people braved the hot coals, walking barefoot over 15 feet of burning hot embers!

Among the brave Firewalkers was Charlie, service manager at our supported living home in the New Forest, and her senior support workers, Sarath and Jessie.

She said “When we heard about the Firewalk, we thought, ‘Why not?!’ We already had a plan for improving our garden and wanted to raise some money to help make it happen. We’re hoping to create a sensory area and a water play station to give people we support an extra space to enjoy – especially in the summer because they love spending time outside and we have a glorious garden.

“When we first got there, we were absolutely terrified – as you can imagine! But it ended up being one of the best experiences I think I’ve ever had. It was amazing fun. Everyone was really up for it, and there was such a great sense of togetherness. Keith from Firewalk UK, who led us through it, was fantastic – he kept the energy high and really motivated us to believe we could do it.

“We thoroughly enjoyed it and we are still talking about it with huge smiles on our faces. We’re already thinking about what fundraising challenge we can take on next!”

It’s not too late to show your support for Charlie, Sarath and Jessie – you can donate here.

Zoe, FitzRoy’s Head of Fundraising, said: “A MASSIVE thank you to everyone for taking part in the FitzRoy Firewalk. There will be loads more ways to get involved and raise money this year so if you like a challenge, keep in touch! Sign up to hear more from us as we plan more special ways to raise money for FitzRoy’s vital work and  let us know if you have a brilliant fundraising idea.

“Most importantly, to all our firewalkers I hope you feel incredibly proud to have done something truly extraordinary, raising money to bring the best possible experiences to adults with learning disabilities and autism. From everyone at FitzRoy, a heartfelt thank you!”

And a huge shout out to the incredible Keith from Firewalk UK, Petersfield Rugby Club for being amazing hosts and Hometown Events for their wonderful support.”

Petersfield’s Shine Radio came along to chat with some of the firewalkers before and after the big moment – including their very own Kirsty Meredith! Listen here.
