Team Bainbridge are training hard and fundraising for their Ultra Challenge
For some of our amazing support workers, transforming lives day (and night) just isn’t enough for them, as they take on the Peak District Ultra Challenge to raise money for a new sensory room.
Thomas, Will, Louise, Hannah, Keira and Rebecca, support workers at our Bainbridge Close service in Norfolk, will be walking or running either the 25km or 50km race in the Peak District Ultra Challenge on 13 July 2019. To raise money and sponsorship, they have been doing charity car washes and car boot fundraisers and they’ve been on the treadmill at their local Morrison’s supermarket.

“We all wanted to improve our level of fitness, so when we saw the Peak District Ultra Challenge we thought we could get fit and raise money for FitzRoy at the same time. I’m doing the 50km! We are raising money for a brand new multi-sensory room – a therapeutic, calming environment and a safe place to liberate the people we support from their wheelchairs.
“I was a bit daunted at first, but we’re already feeling the benefits of the training. We’re really excited and looking forward to the day. I would recommend it to anyone, because when you put your mind to something, you can achieve it. I feel better physically and mentally too. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and helped with fundraising. As the event approaches we are all very excited. It’s been a long journey preparing for this but very much worth it. It’s brought us together as a team, we’ve all boosted our fitness levels and of course we’ve raised lots of money for FitzRoy! I wouldn’t put anyone off taking on this challenge!
After the Ultra Challenge we caught up with Tom, he told us:
Well we made it. Although it was much harder than we thought. Despite all the training nothing can prepare you for the hills you have to climb in Derbyshire! It was without doubt the hardest thing I’ve ever done and my legs and feet are so sore! It took Hannah, Keira and Rebecca between 5 and 6 hours to do the 25km and me and Will took 11 hours for the 52km! A massive thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported us.
