Purpose of the Job

FitzRoy has an ambitious Digital Transformation Programme working to deliver easy to use, robust, information driven solutions that enable all stakeholders to be fully informed and engaged in supporting people with learning disabilities to lead the lives they choose.

Reporting to the IT Service Delivery Manager you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and integrity of our information systems and data. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in IT security, risk management, and compliance, with a focus on implementing and maintaining robust security measures to protect against potential cyber threats.

Outline of Responsibilities and Duties

  • Implement and manage existing security infrastructure, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems and antivirus software.
  • Monitor and analyse security alerts, incidents, and vulnerabilities; responding promptly to security breaches or incidents.
  • Administer user access controls, ensuring proper authentication and authorization mechanisms are in place.
  • Work with the Information Governance Officer to develop and maintain IT security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Enforce security policies and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct security awareness training programs for employees to enhance their understanding of security best practices and mitigate human-related security risks.
  • Perform regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and address potential weaknesses in the IT infrastructure.
  • Work with system administrators and the helpdesk team to remediate identified vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain an incident response plan.
  • Coordinate and lead incident response efforts in the event of a security incident, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging threats, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, Cyber Essentials Plus, NIST).
  • Prepare reports for Directors to understand our threat landscape
  • Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident in dealing with all levels of stakeholders
  • Ability to apply problem solving techniques and get results
  • Self-motivated and committed to delivery on time and to a high quality
  • Demonstrable experience of balancing priorities and successful delivery of objectives, in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot, investigate and resolve technical issues
  • Ability to react quickly and effectively to issues and opportunities
  • A clear understanding and drive to meet security and compliance standards with a ‘security first’ ethos
