A different kind of Christmas

When Anna* arrived at FitzRoy, she had nothing but the clothes she was wearing.

Before that, she’d been living in an emergency shelter.  FitzRoy changed everything. Staff helped Anna move into her own flat safe, warm, and hers. She hung photos of her mum and friends on the wall, adopted a cat called Luna, and began to smile again.

But Christmas can still be hard.

Christmas has always been a painful time for Anna. She lost her mum when she was young, and her relationships with extended family are strained. Last year, she spent Christmas in hospital after her mental health took a turn for the worst, it was the safest place for her. Because of past trauma, she fears being asked to leave when things go wrong. But the team reminds her, his is her home and she is always welcome to return when she’s ready.
