Thank you for being there for us during the coronavirus crisis

We are constantly humbled by the amazing support we are receiving from local businesses, communities and the families of the people we support during these most challenging times.

While donations to our coronavirus crisis appeal continue coming in, we are also enormously grateful for everyone who is supporting our services. From donations of face masks, visors and hand sanitiser, to cash for items to help us get through lockdown, we could not do it without you. And although we are still in the midst of dealing with coronavirus – and doing what we can to keep the people we support and our staff safe – we wanted to stop and take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you. There are so many examples of kindness and generosity we have experienced up and down the country.

Mari Evans, deputy manager at our Wensum Way registered care service in Norfolk, told us of the support they had been receiving from the families of the people they support. She said: “One parent donated £1000 to the FitzRoy crisis appeal which is unbelievably generous, and another brought us five litres of handwash and five litres of hand sanitiser. Our families have been amazing. They bring us cakes, gave us Easter eggs a few weeks ago and bottles of wine to say thank for all the hard work we are doing and one donated money to buy us a new freezer.

“We are very lucky to have so much support for Wensum Way, especially in this really challenging time.”

And staff haven’t let the lockdown dampen their spirits either, making sure the people they support are still taking part in activities and enjoying the sunshine

“We have been doing lots of activities since lockdown, I know the people we support have really missed going to The Maltings day service so we have tried to do as many activities as we can so they don’t miss it so much. We have been doing painting, picnic lunches, board games – we even ordered a giant inflatable football so the residents in wheelchairs can have a play with it in the garden. They have absolutely loved it. Also they have been involved in the shopping every week.

We have a really lovely garden so it has been brilliant to make use out of it in the nice weather. I’m really looking forward to having everyone together for a BBQ once lockdown is lifted to say thank you to The Maltings day service staff who have been working here helping us, and to the parents for supporting us.

“I don’t know how to put into words how amazing the team has been since lockdown, I just want to say a huge thank you for their hard work and effort. We have a relatively new team and have had to train them up quickly but they have just been incredible. Everyone has just worked so well together, and going above and beyond. It is just incredible what they are doing.”
