When Devon finally returned to his FitzRoy home after months in hospital, it felt like a miracle.
The man who once filled every room with laughter, warmth and the smell of his favourite Caribbean dishes had become almost unrecognisable – weak, withdrawn and struggling to speak. His family feared he might never return to the life he loved.
Devon’s return to FitzRoy has been nothing short of a miracle… It was a huge relief knowing he was eventually returning to FitzRoy. His rehabilitation is ongoing but going in the right direction.Devon's brother
A sudden bleed on the brain had turned his world upside down, stealing his independence and leaving doctors suggesting he spend the rest of his life in nursing care. But that wasn’t the future Devon wanted, and it wasn’t one FitzRoy was willing to accept. Our team stayed by his side throughout, fighting to bring him back to the place he
calls home, where he is loved, understood and surrounded by people who believe in him.
When Devon finally returned just before Christmas, he had a long road ahead. He was frail, confused and unable to communicate more than a few words. But with patient, consistent and compassionate support, Devon started to rediscover himself. First came tiny steps, lifting his legs in bed, smiling again, forming sentences. Then came bigger moments, cooking his favourite food, laughing with friends, even learning new skills like vacuuming. Bit by bit, his confidence, independence and joy came back.
Now, Devon is embracing the festive season with the same spirit that makes him the heart of his home. He’s helping prepare homemade food for a lively Christmas party, wearing matching pyjamas with his housemates on Christmas Eve, and for the first time in years looking forward to Christmas Day with his sister.
I’ve been stuck in hospitals and Christmas has been cancelled for me. It’s good to be home. I can’t wait to have a proper Christmas with all the trimmings.Devon
