100 miles in 100 days to raise £100 so Kirsty can ‘give something back’

Published: June 21, 2019

Kirsty has been supported by FitzRoy for over a year, and now with her ‘100 miles in 100 days’ challenge, she wants to raise £100 to help people with learning disabilities and autism.

We caught up with Kirsty on day 15 of her challenge to see how she was doing.

Kirsty said:

“FitzRoy has transformed my life – they help me with my achievements, my goals, anything. They are so amazing, I can’t put it into words, now I want to give something back so they can help other people. I am on day 15 of my 100 miles challenge and at first it was really hard. Now I am enjoying it much more, and FitzRoy staff are always with me when I do the mile, so they can make sure I’m okay, because I have problems with balance.

“Weight problems caused my brain condition (Kirsty has a neurological condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension) so it is better for me if I lose weight. And I am really looking forward to going to Primark to buy some new clothes!”

FitzRoy’s Nottingham Support at Home service provides Kirsty with the support she needs to enable her to live in her own home.

Kirsty told us:

“They are helping me keep healthy. Next week, I will be going swimming for the first time in ages. A year ago, I couldn’t cook at all.  I could only make beans on toast, pasta or boiled eggs. They taught me that with a load of vegetables and stock cubes, I can make my own soup. They also taught me to cook a Sunday roast and my favourite that I am really proud of, cheese stuffed meatballs! We do lots of Pinch of Nom healthy recipes.”

I feel so much better about myself, much more confident and healthier. I am happy to be changing my lifestyle, with more healthy eating, and I won’t stop fundraising for FitzRoy!
