Ashley and Sarah running The Maltings market stall

There’s always lots going on at The Maltings, our day service in Norfolk, and two of the members, Ashley and Sarah, did a brilliant job recently helping to raise awareness in the local community of FitzRoy and the work we do.

The Maltings regularly have a stall at the Fakenham weekly market and Ashley and Sarah spent some time on the stand last week. Sarah said: “It’s lovely to sit in the sunshine and make friends.”

Deputy Service Manager Toby says: “We always have a range of activities planned here at The Maltings and our arts and crafts room is very popular. It’s lovely to see the people we support having a great time bringing their creative side to the fore. From bookmarks to elaborately decorated bottles, magnets to wall art, they really do create some beautiful items.

“As well as the pure enjoyment of getting in touch with their artistic side, the items our members create are often sold on our market stall so they’re helping to raise funds as well. Currently we’re fundraising for FitzFest, which is a very exciting event we’re planning for next year so do keep an eye out for news on that. The stall is also a great way to engage with our local community and increase awareness of our work.”

Toby explains:

Many of our members have particular activities that they enjoy doing on the days we support them – which can be just a couple of days a week or the full five days. The team here at The Maltings will always do our best to find out what that person really likes to do, so we can help them achieve that and get the maximum possible fun out of their time with us.

“Ashley and Sarah both like getting out to look round the town on the days we support them and Ashley particularly enjoys meeting dogs when he’s out and about. He met lots of dogs – and their owners! – while at the stall last week and did a great job showing people the things on sale that our members had made.”

Ashley said: “I love the market and coming to see all my friends and dogs.”
