Celebrating Festus at the Oxfordshire Care Awards

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Festus, who reached the final stage at the Oxfordshire Care Awards and was Highly Commended in the Care Home Worker Award category.

Since joining FitzRoy in September 2024, Festus has made a remarkable impact on both the people we support and the colleagues he works with. From day one, he brought a calm and thoughtful approach to his role, helping to create an environment where people feel safe, respected and understood.

Festus joined FitzRoy as a support worker supporting four people with autism and additional needs. He took the time to understand each person for who they are and learn what matters to them, building strong relationships through patience and consistency.

What stands out most about Festus is the way he quietly goes above and beyond in his role every day. Whether he is making changes to better support someone’s wellbeing, encouraging colleagues to think creatively, or simply offering reassurance during a difficult time, he brings kindness and professionalism into every interaction he has.

His positive influence was quickly recognised by both his team and leadership and shortly after joining us he was promoted to senior support worker, a recognition of his leadership potential and the positive impact he’s already made. He now actively supports new staff settle into their roles with confidence whilst modelling best practice.

Alongside his day-to-day work, Festus is also completing a self-funded Level 5 apprenticeship. His commitment to learning and improving reflects the passion he has for giving the very best support possible.

Festus embodies everything great support should be, he’s compassionate, person-centred and empowering. Being a finalist and Highly Commended in the Care Home Worker category is a wonderful and well-deserved recognition of everything Festus brings to FitzRoy every day.
