Daniella gets ready for FitzRoy’s Around the World challenge

Published: August 20, 2020

Daniella has taken part in countless half marathons, three marathons and a full Ironman in Copenhagen, and for her next venture she’ll be taking part in FitzRoy’s Around the World in 80 Days Challenge. She’ll be joining people across the country who will be collectively covering 25,127 miles to help transform the lives of the people we support.

The challenge, which starts on 1 September, will see people run, walk, cycle, row, using a wheelchair or even paddleboarding their way to completing one lap of the globe, while raising money for FitzRoy. The challenge is accessible for everyone, every single mile counts towards the total 25,127!

Daniella, who works in FitzRoy’s IT department, said: “I started getting into running about nine years ago when I took part in the Great South Run. Within a year of running that I completed my first half marathon and then my first marathon, became hooked. I love being able to challenge myself and see how much I can accomplish.

“Since then my love of running and cycling has just taken off. I joined my local Petersfield Triathlon club and last year I completed a full Ironman in Copenhagen, raising £2,500 for charity in the process. My favourite part of the challenges I take part in isn’t just when I cross the finish line, it’s when I come home afterwards and see how proud I’ve made my two sons. They’re my biggest fans and are always so supportive of the events I do.

“I have only worked for FitzRoy for six months but I absolutely love it. To work somewhere with values like FitzRoy is really special, and I want to be able to give something back, especially after all the dedication our support workers have put in during the coronavirus crisis. Their efforts are just incredible and I’d love to raise some money to support all of their hard work.”

“I’ll be running, cycling, walking and even using my rowing machine to help complete the 25,127 miles. My personal challenge is to do something each of the 80 days. It’s a brilliant idea because you can set your own targets and can complete the challenge however you want to.

“I think now is the best time to get involved in a challenge like Around the World in 80 Days – a lot of people may have been a bit more inactive during lockdown and want to get back into fitness, and some people might want to try a new activity for the first time. It’s a challenge open to everyone of all abilities, every mile counts no matter how you achieve it.”
