FitzRoy Support at Home resident raises money for Air Ambulance

A support worker from FitzRoy’s Support at Home service in Norfolk, Gaynor Moore, went above and beyond to help someone she supports do something brilliant for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Gaynor told us more.

I have been supporting Martin regularly for the last six months, so I learnt that he enjoyed walking and goes out pretty much every day.

I suggested that perhaps he could use his interest in walking to raise money for charity. He thought it was a great idea and said it was one of his ambitions to do a sponsored walk but wasn’t sure how to go about it and who to raise money for.

We discussed it at length and Martin decided that he wanted to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance by doing a four mile walk. I asked him if he had any reason for this particular charity and he said that he thought they do a great job for people who need it.

I printed off a sponsorship form for Martin and together we managed to get other support workers, friends, and family to sponsor. We have a social event at the local bowling alley every Friday evening so we also took the sponsorship form there and got lots support.

When it came to the walk we had a lovely warm sunny day and Martin thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He completed the walk in just under two hours and said it was fantastic to raise money for the Air Ambulance. He raised over £200!

Martin then went to visit the East Anglian Air Ambulance to deliver his cheque and was absolutely over the moon to see the helicopter and meet the Pilots. I feel quite blessed to have been part of the experience. What a lovely job I have!”
