Getting into the festivities and making new friends at FitzRoy

Published: December 13, 2019

The Christmas spirit is all around at FitzRoy, and the people we support in Nottinghamshire have been getting into the festivities with their Christmas party.

And their annual event had an extra special touch this year, after Kirsty decided to buy more than 100 presents for everyone with money she raised earlier this year. In September, Kirsty – who we support so she can live independently in her own home – completed her 100 miles in 100 days challenge, raising more than £400.

Service manager, Kimberley Knights, said: “Kirsty wanted to use some of the money to buy everyone Christmas presents, which is such a lovely idea. She went out and picked all the presents and wrapped them herself, she’s is really thoughtful.

Everyone was really happy with their presents it’s always nice to be thought of at Christmas.

“The whole evening was a real success. It’s such a great opportunity to get everyone together. Our Support at Home service provides support for over 100 people across Nottingham and Mansfield with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions, so this party gives the people we support a chance to catch up with each other and make new friends. Some people who met at the Christmas party have arranged to meet for lunch next week, which is so positive as some of them can easily become very isolated, especially at this time of year.

“We have some really good local support in our area, local businesses donated prizes for our tombola, and Arnold Football Club, where we host our event every year are brilliant, and they always get involved with the games we have on too.

“I’m really proud of all my team for putting on another amazing Christmas party it’s a lot of work and everybody did something to make it special.”
