Team Boldshaves are skydiving for FitzRoy!

Michael and his team in Kent are taking on a challenge of a lifetime this summer – by jumping out of a plane for the people they support.

The brave team, who support 13 people at their residential care home Boldshaves Oast, have decided to skydive to raise money for a new sensory room for their service.

We asked deputy manager Michael how he feels about the upcoming skydive:

“I feel this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie but I’m also quite scared of heights, so I definitely feel I’ll be conquering a fear whilst having so much fun.

“It motivates me that we are raising so much money for the people we support. I’m terrified and excited at the same time but the most important thing is to focus on raising as much money as possible before the jump.

“Incredibly, we have already beaten our fundraising target and have raised more than £2,000 so far – we are so thankful for all the support we have received. Our goal is to use the money for a new sensory room and equipment for our residents.

“At Boldshaves, everything we do is around enabling the people we support to be independent and choose to do what they love. Having a sensory room and more equipment would mean we could offer even more choice to our residents.”

Support worker Lauren is also taking part in the jump. She said: “The money we are raising allows us to continue to transform the lives of the people we support. Everyone at Boldshaves is like a second family to me – I feel so lucky to work in such a lovely environment. Even when I am nervous about doing the jump I remember we are in it together.”

Support worker Lana added: “I decided to join the skydive with the Boldshaves team because working here has changed my life for the better, and I want to give something back. When I moved to the area three years ago, I didn’t know anyone, but now Boldshaves is my second home. The people we support and staff are great people and they give me a real sense of purpose. When the opportunity for the skydive came up – I couldn’t say no.”

Michael and Lana, Jessica, Cecilia, Dominique, Lauren, Gavin and Carol will be skydiving for FitzRoy in August. You can donate to their skydive here.
