Oliver McGowan training frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 2, including who it is for, what the training involves, booking and funding.

Is Oliver McGowan training mandatory?

Regulated health and social care providers are required to ensure staff receive learning disability and autism training that is appropriate to their role. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred and recommended training package for health and social care staff.

Who is Tier 2 training for?

Tier 2 is for people who provide, or may be required to provide, care and support to autistic people or people with a learning disability. This can include frontline staff, health and social care professionals, some managers and people involved in making decisions about services.

What does Tier 2 training involve?

Tier 2 has two parts, an e-learning package and a one-day, face-to-face training session. FitzRoy delivers Tier 2, Part 2, the face-to-face element of the training.

Do I need to complete the e-learning before attending?

Yes. The e-learning forms part of the Tier 2 training and participants need to complete it before attending the face-to-face session.

Can I book an individual place?

Yes. We run open training days where organisations can book individual places for members of their team.

Can FitzRoy train our whole team?

Yes. We can deliver Tier 2, Part 2 training for groups of up to 30 people at a suitable venue provided by your organisation.

Can the training be tailored to our organisation?

Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is a standardised programme, so the core content does not change. Our trainers can help participants explore how the learning relates to their own roles, services and experiences, using relevant discussion and examples where appropriate.

Can we claim funding towards the cost of training?

Eligible adult social care employers may be able to claim reimbursement towards the cost of Oliver McGowan training. Funding arrangements and eligibility can change, so we recommend checking the latest government guidance before booking.
