Build your understanding of learning disability and autism
FitzRoy is an NHS England approved provider of Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training and a Quality Assured Care Learning Service (QACLS) provider.
FitzRoy delivers the training to staff who need a general awareness of learning disability and autism.
Tier 1 is for people who may have contact with autistic people or people with a learning disability but do not provide direct care or support. It can be particularly suitable for smaller organisations and staff in non-care roles.
Employers are responsible for deciding which level of training is appropriate for their staff.

How does the training work?
Tier 1 has two parts. Both must be completed.
Part 1: E-learning (90 minutes)
Participants first complete the free Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training e-learning, accessed through the NHS England e-Learning for Healthcare portal.
The e-learning introduces learning disability and autism, the barriers people may face and the importance of understanding individual needs.
Participants must complete the e-learning before attending the live webinar and provide a valid, in-date completion certificate.
Part 2: Live interactive webinar (60 minutes)
Our live webinar builds on the e-learning and is co-delivered by a facilitating trainer and two trainers with lived experience.
Participants can hear directly about people’s experiences, ask questions and explore communication, reasonable adjustments and how to make services more accessible.
Training for your organisation
We deliver private Tier 1 webinars for up to 30 participants at a cost of £400 plus VAT per session.
Training your team together offers a cost-effective way to build a shared understanding of learning disability and autism, with opportunities to discuss how the learning relates to your organisation.
Funding
Eligible adult social care employers who meet Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) compliance requirements may be able to claim retrospective reimbursement through the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS), subject to the current funding criteria.
Why train with FitzRoy?
FitzRoy has supported people with learning disabilities, autistic people and people with mental health needs for more than 60 years.
That experience shapes the way we approach training. People with lived experience are active members of our training team, sharing their own perspectives to help participants understand the difference that good communication and reasonable adjustments can make.
Our training team can discuss your requirements, possible dates and practical arrangements for your private webinar.
